Black Canyon Audubon Society, founded in 1990, is a National Audubon Society chapter serving six counties in western Colorado (Delta, Gunnison, Hinsdale, Montrose, San Miguel, and Ouray) spanning roughly 8,300 square miles from desert scrub to alpine tundra. It runs birding field trips, bird-banding stations, and classroom education programs, and engages in conservation advocacy, including wildlife recovery work for the Gunnison Sage Grouse.
