Bright Ice Initiative, headquartered in Portola Valley, California and founded by Dr. Leslie Field, works to slow glacial melt through 'Surface Albedo Modification' -- applying an eco-friendly, clay-based reflective material to ice and snow to increase surface reflectivity. It conducts small-scale field tests in collaboration with local and Indigenous communities, having tested the approach on Iceland's Langjokull Glacier and in the Himalayas, with Greenland, Canada, Alaska, and Antarctica identified as additional focus regions.
