Burden Lake Preservation Corporation

The Burden Lake Preservation Corporation is a volunteer organization focused on preserving the water levels, property values, and ecosystem of Burden Lake in the Town of Sand Lake, New York. Under an Order on Consent with the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation, it is working alongside Rensselaer County and the Town of Sand Lake to rehabilitate the Burden Lake Dam (originally built in the 1830s along Wynants Kill) and resolve outstanding dam-safety violations. It has also compiled a multi-part booklet series documenting the lake's history and infrastructure dating back to the 17th century.
