California Open Lands is a Chico-based land trust that holds and manages conservation easements protecting wetlands, sensitive habitats, and endangered species across Northern California, with an emphasis on land close to urban centers. Led by Mechoopda Tribal Member Ali Meders-Knight, it also restores native plants using Indigenous Traditional Ecological Knowledge (ITEK) and develops a 'seed-to-shelf' framework turning native plants into food, fiber, and medicine to support Tribal food sovereignty.
