California River Watch

California River Watch is a citizen-based environmental enforcement group based in Sebastopol, CA, dedicated to protecting and restoring the surface waters and groundwater of Northern California, including rivers, creeks, streams, wetlands and vernal pools. It works through education, pollution prevention, and cooperation with polluters and regulators, but files citizen lawsuits under laws like the Clean Water Act when negotiations fail, directing settlement proceeds back into community remediation, restoration, and education projects.
