Coachella Valley Waterkeeper is an extension of Orange County Coastkeeper that addresses water issues in the Coachella Valley desert, including the Whitewater River and the aquifer it recharges, which supplies drinking water to roughly 400,000 people and 66,000 acres of farmland. It works through five program areas -- education, advocacy, restoration, conservation, and enforcement -- to counter a legacy of poor development, overuse, and pollution, and it also monitors pollution affecting the Salton Sea.
