Now operating as Neighborhood Land Conservancy (its site confirms it was 'Formerly d/b/a The Environmental Conservancy of North Port And Surrounding Areas'), this all-volunteer, privately-funded nonprofit acquires and permanently conserves vacant neighborhood land to preserve habitat for native flora and fauna, including threatened species like the Gopher Tortoise and Florida Scrub-Jay. Launched in spring 2020 in North Port, FL, it has since expanded to secure over 60 parcels across North Port, Sarasota, Charlotte County, and surrounding communities, funded entirely by private donations rather than government sources.
