The timing is notable. Hampden County has been under moderate drought (D1) for at least three consecutive weeks, stressing the same trees the lanternflies are already targeting — and trees under prolonged water stress tend to have fewer resources to cope with additional pressure. Anyone finding egg masses — flat, mud-colored smears on bark, stones, or outdoor furniture — should scrape them off and report them. At this scale, early removal is still the most effective intervention.
